"Los Vaqueros", or Cowboys and Cowgirls to us Gringos-regularly compete in  Rodeos and Charreadas in  arenas all across Texas. This show of skills is hosted in a festive atmosphere with lots of music, food, beer, and the flourish of traditional pageantry that has been passed on for generations.

Many of these competitors come from ranches and farms where working with horses and cattle are a part of everyday life.  To me they are genuine and unpretentious.  They love their sport and their part in it.  And you know what else is great?  All the political stuff, egos, and angst of the outside world get checked at the gate.  I've never heard of a competitor taking a knee, raising a fist, stomping on a flag, making an inappropriate speech, or any of other crap that so many sports are determined to cram down our throats.
So, if you've never been to a rodeo or charreada - check it out.  It's clean, it's visceral, and it's fun.
